The formation history, current state and prospects for the direction development in Russian archival science is considered. It is noted that it was formed as a general document science in the process of a nationwide archival fund creation. Later it lost its significance and, having moved into management sciences, it stood out from archival science in a new capacity. The futility of creating a separate documentary scientific discipline of the archival cycle is shown, since the basic concept of archival science and practice is the concept of an archival fund, not a document.

Within the framework of topic 1.6 of the VNIIDAD 2022 R&D plan, aspects of archival authorities control activities in the USSR and the Russian Federation for the period from 1918 to 2019, before the adoption of the current state control legislation in archiving, are considered: the legal framework, control subject and object, control bodies powers, controlled persons, control types (supervisory) mea- sures. Based on the analysis of these aspects, the of formation and development stages of the control system for compliance with the legislation on archiving in Russia are highlighted.

The necessity for studying the formation history of the documents types intended purpose for appraisal in the process of compiling retention schedules is substantiated. The change in documents types scope created by institutions of higher education in Russia in the 1917–1920s is studied.

As part of the development of the Procedure for acquisition of electronic archival records in state and municipal archives, in accordance with the VNIIDAD Research Plan for 2022, an analysis of international experience on transferring databases to state archival storage was carried out. Foreign and national literature, normative and methodological documents, international programs and projects, publications of official archival institutions’ websites are the sources of the study. Such databases preservation methods as conversion, normalization and emulation are described. The case studies and examples of application in foreign archival institutions for each method are given. In conclusion, summary on the applicability of preservation strategies in relation to various types of databases is presented.

The results of the analysis of technological (formats of digital images, accessibility for viewing, etc.) and archaeographic (archaeographic legend, titles of documents) aspects of the presentation of archival audiovisual documents in Internet projects are presented. Projects that mainly include audiovisual documents are noted.

The study results on archival management bodies open data in the Russian Federation, posted on open data portals as of autumn 2021 are presented.

The issues related to one of the indicators of the annual monitoring of document flow in federal executive bodies and the transition of federal executive bodies to paperless document flow are considered. The composition of the regulatory framework, which establishes the number of federal executive bodies, and the compliance of the number of record-keeping services employees in monitoring objects with the established standards are analyzed.

The results of electronic document management systems development directions comparison in departmental programs and regional digital transformation strategies in Russian Federation are presented. The conclusion is made about the relevance of taking into account these areas of electronic document management systems modernization when monitoring the workflow by VNIIDAD in subsequent years.

The possibility of using the indicators annually obtained by VNIIDAD as part of the "Workflow monitoring in federal executive bodies and the transition of federal executive bodies to paperless workflow" to form a methodology for calculating and evaluating the digital transformation of the federal executive bodies activity documented areas using already existing methodologies for calculating digital transformation targets published by the Ministry of Digital Development and Mass Communications in 2020 is highlighted.

The experience of Finland, Sweden and Norway archives in archival documents appraisal is presented. The main archiving regulatory legal acts of the Northern Europe states, the impact of regulation on the formation of securities proactive examination are analyzed. The issues of the distribution of responsibilities between acquisition sources (state and municipal institutions) and state archives during the archival documents appraisal are highlighted.
