Development of ISO metadata concepts for document management
Evolution of developers views on the problem of document management, using metadata as an effective tool? on the example of ISO standards, arranged in a logical sequence (ISO 15489-1→ ISO 23081-1 → ISO 23081-2), is observed. It is pointed out, that ISO 15489-1 standard, while considering the processes of documenting transactions, requires document management systems to reflect completely and accurately, through fixation in metadata, all operations, made directly with a particular document, as well as the processes, associated with it. It is noted, that ISO 23081-1 standard expands, in order to emphasize the dynamism of management processes, the definition of metadata, given in ISO 15489-1 standard, which allows them to be used for identification, authentication and contextualization of documents and people, processes and systems, as well as for the policy principles, on which their management is based. The main provisions of the draft standard ISO 23081-2, defining the general types of metadata, analyzed in the context of document management, both for document objects and other objects to be managed in order to document and understand the context of documents, as well as developing the principles of forming a conceptual model for metadata and a high-level set of universal metadata elements, suitable for any integration into the documentary environment are given.
