Some aspects of the methodology of diplomatic research in the works of S.M. Kashtanov and the discussion on them, which confirmed the main theoretical approaches of the scientist, are presented; his contribution to the formation of domestic diplomatics as a scientific discipline is shown.

The history of the preparation and holding by the Naval Archive in the difficult material and living conditions of post-war Petrograd of the jubilee exhibition associated with the name of Emperor Peter I (the composition of exhibits, opening ceremony, excursions, and range of visitors) is elucidated.

In connection with the 100th anniversary of the birth of Professor of the Institute for History and Archives of RSUH S.O. Schmidt, a graduate of 1971 V.I. Galtsov, currently Professor of the I.Kant Baltic Federal University, reminisces about his work with students, including within the framework of the source studies circle, created by him.

On the eve of S.O. Schmidt’s 100th anniversary M.F. Shumeyko, a graduate of 1974, currently Professor of the Belarusian State University, shared his memories of the Teacher, his participation in the work of the source studies scientific student circle and the organization of the educational process at the Moscow State Institute for History and Archives.

The published memoirs of the chairman of the Moscow Local History Society and the Russian Society for the Study of the Crimea, V.F. Kozlov, written for the 100th anniversary of the birth of S.O. Schmidt, tells about the contribution of the scientist to Muscovite studies, regular meetings in his apartment of defenders and propagandists of the cultural heritage of the capital; raises the question of the need to install a memorial plaque on Schmidt’s house in Krivoarbatsky Lane.

The memoirs of N.P. Undolsky «My autobiography. 1909–1945» about his stay in German captivity from July 1941 to April 1945, written in 1981–1982 and stored in the State Archive of the Vladimir region, are introduced into scientific circulation.
